Ray
Flachbart was hired by Blue Cross of Idaho Health Service,
Inc., on September 1, 2000 as senior executive vice president/president
designee and became president and CEO on January 1, 2001.
Blue Cross of Idaho has annual revenues in excess of $600
million and employs more than 650 individuals. Blue Cross
of Idaho is the largest heatlh insurer in Idaho, with membership
exceeding 300,000. In addition to providing overall Plan
direction and leadership, he serves as a member of the Plan's
board of directors.
Prior
to joining Blue Cross of Idaho, Ray was the senior vice
president and general manager of AmeriHealth of Texas, Inc.,
a subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross, headquartered in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ray led the start-up of AmeriHealth
of Texas, which grew from the 17th largest to the sixth
largest health plan in just two years.
Ray
also worked for Prudential Healthcare for 11 years in Connecticut,
New Jersey and Texas. In Houston, he led Prudential's health
plan to increases in membership, profits and customer satisfaction
for three years in a row. Previously, Ray was a health care
consultant with InterQual and Amherst Associates, working
with hospitals and multi-hospital systems on strategic planning
and financial engagements.
Ray
serves on the board of directors of the Boise Metro Chamber
of Commerce; the board of directors of Boise State University
Foundation; the board of directors of the BlueCross and
BlueShield Association; the Steering Committee of the Idaho
State Planning Grant for the Uninsured; chair of the Treasure
Valley Heart Walk, and is chairman of the board of the Blue
Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health.
Ray
received his BA from Cleveland State University and his
MA and MBA with a concentration in finance from the University
of Chicago.
