Blue Cross Foundation
Contributes to NIC Community Campaign
The
Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health, Inc. showed its
commitment to education recently through a $5,000 gift to
the NIC Providing Opportunities-Fulfilling Dreams Community
Campaign in support of technology and equipment needs for
the NIC Health and Sciences Building.
"We
recognize the important role nurses play in the delivery
of quality health care and are pleased to support North
Idaho College's nursing program with this donation,"
said Ray Flachbart, chairman of the Blue Cross of Idaho
Foundation for Health. "The current nursing shortage
is fueling increases in health care costs. By making funds
available for the new Health and Sciences Building, the
Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health will help increase
the number of associate degree nurses and licenses practical
nurses that North Idaho College can train."
The
Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health was established
by the Blue Cross of Idaho Board of Directors for the purpose
of promoting better health and wellness across the state.
Contributing to the Providing Opportunities-Fulfilling Dreams
Community Campaign, which is poised to raise a minimum of
$2 million toward student scholarships as well as technology
and equipment needs for the new Health and Sciences Building,
fit with the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation's mission to
support health improvement initiatives throughout the state.
"Since
its inception in 2001, our foundation has been involved
in programs that positively impact the health and wellness
of all Idaho residents," Flachbart said. "Supporting
the NIC nursing program is an excellent fit with our mission."
The
gift will go toward funding state-of-the-art technology
and equipment needs for NIC's new Health and Sciences Building,
scheduled to open this September. The two-story building
will increase NIC's classroom capacity by 25 percent and
will include 10 general use classrooms, eight labs, a theater-style
auditorium with seating for 100, a smaller auditorium with
seating for 60 and two video broadcast classrooms.
The
campaign has raised more than $1.9 million to date.
