Boise, ID - November 28, 2005. The Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation
for Health presented $16,000 to two selected beneficiaries
of the Foundation's annual Blue Cruise Wheels For Wellness
charity bike ride. The Children's Home Society of Idaho
and The Friendship Clinic, which offers free medical services
to low-income working clients and the uninsured, were both
recently presented with checks for $8,000.
The funds were collected through sponsorships and participant
fees from the annual Blue Cruise bike ride, which takes
place each August. This year, more than 400 riders participated
in the cycling event which includes routes of 15, 30, 50,
and 100-miles. All participants start and finish at the
Blue Cross of Idaho campus in Meridian.
This was the third year that the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation
for Health presented the event and it's growing each year
in popularity. The Foundation promotes and encourages the
health and wellness of all Idahoans through the support
and funding of charitable health programs and organizations.
"We want to thank the 400 cyclists who participated
in the ride, our great sponsors and the more than 60 volunteers
who helped make the 2005 Blue Cruise a huge success,"
said Gary Dyer, vice chairman of the Blue Cross of Idaho
Foundation for Health. "We are honored to be able to
present $16,000 to two very deserving beneficiaries who
we know will accomplish great things for our community with
this support."
The Children's Home Society of Idaho will use the funding
to increase training for staff to work with children who
have eating disorders and issues with obesity. The program
will be aimed at children ages 3 to 12 and will also include
individual counseling and support groups. The Friendship
Clinic, located in the All Saints Episcopal Church will
use the funding to enhance its current medical assistance
program. The clinic, which offers free medical services
each Monday night from 6 to 9 p.m., is staffed by local
volunteer doctors and nurse practitioners.
Mark
your calendars for Sunday, August 13, 2006. That is the
scheduled date for next year's Blue Cruise Wheels for Wellness
charity bike ride. The Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for
Health is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and
Blue Shield Association. For more information, visit www.bcidahofoundation.org.
