One of the first systems-focused grants the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health provided was for a Healthy Conditions assessment in Nampa that sought to find out the root causes that were contributing to childhood obesity.
And that’s where our longtime partnership started with St. Luke’s Community Health Manager Jean Mutchie.
That assessment was one of the first done in Idaho, and the data helped steer conversations from assumptions to evidence-based action. Our Community Transformation Grant to the City of Nampa sparked the formation of Healthy Impact Nampa, a collaborative effort focused on improving health outcomes through community-driven solutions that Mutchie helped coordinate.
“If we don’t give up on people, places, and spaces, the long-term impact will be profound,” Mutchie said. “This work changes, saves, and transforms lives and communities.”
Youth programs, community schools and mental health partnerships that involved multiple organizations contribute resources came about through this work.
Mutchie, who also serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Canyon County, Nampa Chamber of Commerce, and Breaking Chains Academy of Development, is a huge proponent of partnerships, data-driven solutions, and trust-based philanthropy. It’s no wonder why both sides appreciate the 15-year partnership.
“The Foundation’s approach has always been rooted and partnership and trust, not prescription,” she said. “Their willingness to invest in understanding communities, ask deeper questions, and support locally driven solutions has allowed meaningful, long-term change to take hold.”
Thank you, Jean Mutchie, for being a trusted partner, and for your work in Nampa and the West Treasure Valley to build a healthier Idaho.
